SYNOPSIS: As of 3:00 AM today, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was located at 835 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon (24.8°N, 128.7°E). The Southwest Monsoon is affecting Southern Luzon and the Visayas.


FORECAST:

- Western Visayas, Palawan (including Kalayaan Islands), and Occidental Mindoro: Expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

- Rest of Visayas: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, also due to the Southwest Monsoon.


Winds and Sea Conditions:

- Light to moderate winds from the southwest will prevail over the whole Visayas, Palawan (including Kalayaan Islands), and Occidental Mindoro. Expect slight to moderate sea conditions.

Recto Predicts Lower Rice Prices in the Coming Months

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto announced that the government anticipates a decrease in rice prices in the coming months. In a report, Recto attributed the expected price drop to the reduction of tariffs on imported rice. He also emphasized the government's commitment to providing increased support to local farmers. Recto called for an extension for the completion of ongoing agricultural projects, such as irrigation and dam construction, to boost rice production further.  Additionally, he mentioned that the government is working on resolving the country's supply chain issues. Recto highlighted that the budget allocated to the Agriculture Department has doubled compared to its 2022 allocation. The Philippine Statistics Authority also projected a significant reduction in the retail prices of rice this month. DepEd Faces August Deadline to Fill Over 20,000 Teacher Vacancies

M ANILA, Philippines —  With only a month left before the deadline, the Department of Education (DepEd) has filled just 9 percent of the 22,323 available teaching positions across the country. During an oversight hearing with the House committee on appropriations, Education Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development Wilfredo Cabral reported that approximately 22 percent of the vacancies are in various stages of the hiring process. "As of this date, we have filled 9 percent of these positions. Twenty-two percent of the total teaching items are already in different stages of appointment. We have also implemented a monitoring system for all regions to verify compliance," Cabral stated.
