Visayas Governors Pledge Support to President Marcos

CEBU CITY, Philippines — In a significant show of solidarity, governors from the Visayas region affirmed their support for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s administration during the opening ceremony of Cebu Province's 455th Founding Anniversary held at the Capitol on Monday.

The event saw the participation of governors from Siquijor, Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Aklan, and Bohol. They also pledged their backing for Marcos' campaign initiative, Bagong Pilipinas.

During the event, a manifesto expressing their support was signed, marking one of the ceremony's key moments. Prior to the signing, Cebu Province officials, including those from highly urbanized cities, handed over their manifesto to First Lady Marie Louise "Liza" Marcos, the event’s guest of honor.

"This united Cebu Island is now stronger than ever. This unity pervades and prevails throughout all of our towns, cities, even down to our barangays. As we have shown in our manifesto, we, the united Cebu, stand firmly behind the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.," said Governor Gwendolyn Garcia in her speech.

Garcia emphasized the collective commitment and issued a challenge to her fellow governors: "Now, more than ever, let our voice ring out across the entire Philippines. As leaders and chief executives who understand the burdens we must face, magnified a thousand times for the President himself, we must move forward with a united country. It is in the hands of the governors to rally all political leaders in their respective provinces in support of President Bongbong Marcos. Challenge given is a challenge accepted."

The governors, seated in unison, responded, "Challenge accepted," and proceeded to sign the manifesto.

Governor Ben Evardone of Eastern Samar, speaking on behalf of the Visayas governors, reiterated their collective support for Marcos. Joining him were Siquijor Governor Jake Villa, Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Guimaras Governor JC Rahman Nava, Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores, and Bohol Governor Erico Aris Aumentado. The governors, along with First Lady Marcos, commemorated the occasion with a group photo.

Later that day, the Department of Health handed over Mobile Facility Clinics to all the provinces in the Visayas regions, further enhancing healthcare services in the area.
