Senator ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa Open to ICC Interview
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa expressed his willingness to face the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutors, but clarified that his cooperation is limited to being interviewed only.
In a Radyo 630 interview, dela Rosa stated, "If they want to communicate with me, I have no problem with that. If they want to conduct an interview, they can do so anytime. However, this does not mean that I submit to their jurisdiction."
He further elaborated, "I am open to answering their questions if they wish to talk, but it doesn’t imply that I acknowledge their authority over us."
Dela Rosa emphasized that his willingness to be interviewed does not extend to cooperating with any ICC investigations should their representatives arrive in the Philippines. "Cooperation is not the right term. I just want to show goodwill, like any normal individual who answers questions politely. But this doesn’t mean I recognize their jurisdiction over me," he clarified.
Background on Dela Rosa and ICC Involvement
Senator dela Rosa was a key figure in former President Rodrigo Duterte’s intense anti-drug campaign. He is one of the individuals named in the crimes against humanity complaint filed at the ICC.
Former Senator Sonny Trillanes IV previously mentioned that dela Rosa and four other former Philippine National Police officials are considered suspects in the ICC case concerning Duterte's drug war. Trillanes noted that as suspects, they could be included in future arrest warrants issued by the ICC.
