OVP Did Not Request for Confidential Funds in 2025 Budget
MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has announced that it did not request any confidential funds in the proposed P6.3-trillion national budget for 2025, as stated by Vice President Sara Duterte.
"In the proposed budget for 2025, the Office of the Vice President has not included a request for confidential funds," Vice President Duterte informed reporters during an ambush interview in Cebu City on Saturday.
Focus on Program Implementation
This move follows the OVP's earlier decision to relinquish P500 million in confidential and intelligence funds from the 2024 budget. In a statement addressed to Senator Sonny Angara’s office, Vice President Duterte highlighted that the OVP’s 2024 budget proposal focuses on implementing programs aimed at reducing poverty and promoting the welfare of Filipino families.
“Your honor, we received a statement from the Vice President which we discussed earlier. According to her, the OVP's budget proposal is intended to ensure the safe implementation of its programs to alleviate poverty and enhance the general welfare of Filipino families,” read the statement presented by Angara.
Reason for Relinquishing Funds
Vice President Duterte emphasized that the decision to forego confidential and intelligence funds is to avoid divisiveness and uphold her commitment to peace and stability in the country. “As the Vice President, she has taken an oath to maintain peace and strengthen the nation, hence the decision not to pursue these funds,” added Angara.
Legislative Context
This development comes amidst the discussion of the proposed P6.3-trillion national budget for 2025 by the Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC). The focus remains on transparent and accountable governance, with the OVP leading by example in foregoing additional confidential funds.
