Nesthy Petecio Dominates Chinese Opponent, Secures Spot in Semifinals for Paris 2024

 


Nesthy Petecio continues to shine in the women’s 57kg boxing category at the Paris 2024 Olympics, achieving a decisive 5-0 victory over China’s Xu Zichun. With this win, Petecio has advanced to the semifinals, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal. She becomes the third member of the Philippine Centennial Team to secure a spot on the podium, joining fellow athletes Carlos Yulo and Aira Villegas.


In this match, Petecio showcased her exceptional skills and experience, dominating the first two rounds with a clean sweep. Although she allowed some points in the third round, she still managed to win the favor of three out of five judges, finishing the bout with scores of 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28.


With this achievement, Nesthy Petecio cements her place in Philippine sports history, becoming one of the few Filipinas, alongside Hidilyn Diaz, to earn multiple Olympic medals.
