Mindanao Weather Update for August 5, 2024 4PM

As of 4 PM today, the weather across Mindanao is significantly influenced by the southwest monsoon (Habagat), bringing cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms to various regions. This weather pattern is expected to continue into the evening, prompting residents to stay vigilant for potential impacts.

Current Weather Conditions

In Davao City, residents can expect overcast skies with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms. Similar conditions are forecasted for General Santos City, where scattered rain showers may lead to localized flooding during heavy downpours.

Cagayan de Oro City is also experiencing cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, while Iligan City and Aloran will see comparable conditions. In Zamboanga City, the forecast indicates cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the evening.

Temperature and Humidity

Temperatures across Mindanao are anticipated to range from a low of 24°C to a high of 32°C. Relative humidity levels are expected to fluctuate between 60% and 90%, contributing to a muggy atmosphere throughout the region.

Wind and Coastal Conditions

Winds in the region are expected to be light to moderate, blowing from the southwest to west. Coastal waters will generally be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters. Fishermen and those planning to engage in water activities should exercise caution.

Low Pressure Area Monitoring

PAGASA is currently monitoring two low-pressure areas (LPAs):

1. One LPA is located approximately 1,155 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

2. Another LPA is situated just outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

These LPAs are likely to enhance the effects of the southwest monsoon, leading to increased rainfall across Mindanao.
