DepEd Reports Enrollment Surpasses 23.8 Million
MANILA, Philippines — As the second week of the school year 2024-2025 unfolds, the Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that over 23.8 million students have enrolled so far.
According to the latest data, a total of 23,845,025 students have signed up, representing 86.10% of the 27.6 million who enrolled in the previous school year, 2023-2024. For this academic year, DepEd aims for a total enrollment of 27,722,835 students.
Enrollment Breakdown
The DepEd’s monitoring report indicates that 20.8 million students are enrolled in public schools, while 2.6 million are in private institutions. Additionally, 280,736 students are part of the Alternative Learning System (ALS), and 38,277 are enrolled in state and local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs).
Regionally, Calabarzon leads with the highest enrollment figures at 3.4 million, followed by Central Luzon with 2.5 million, and the National Capital Region with 2.4 million. In contrast, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) recorded the lowest enrollment at 392,708.
Continuous Enrollment
During the opening of the school year on July 29, Education Secretary Sonny Angara mentioned that students who have yet to enroll still have the opportunity to do so until September. “Enrollment is typically continuous. Many students enroll three to four weeks before classes start, and it will remain open until September,” Angara stated.
Weather Impact
In Malabon City, 42 schools have yet to commence classes due to heavy rains that caused flooding in some areas. The DepEd continues to monitor the situation to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
As the enrollment period progresses, the DepEd remains optimistic about reaching its target, with many students expected to register in the coming weeks.
