Bamban Mayor Alice Guo Still in PH, Says PNP
A Philippine National Police (PNP) official has confirmed that there is no indication suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo has left the Philippines.
"Based on the report from the Bureau of Immigration, there is no evidence that Mayor Alice Guo and her companions who are being sought have left the country," said PNP Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo during an interview on Super Radyo DzBB on Sunday.
Guo is facing an arrest order from the Senate after repeatedly failing to attend its hearing on the raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub in her town. The order also includes Guo's siblings Sheila Leal Guo, Wesley Leal Guo, Jian Zhong Guo, Seimen Guo, and her suspected mother Wen Yi Lin, as well as former Technology and Livelihood Resource Center (TLRC) deputy director general Dennis Cunanan and Nancy Gamo, Guo's supposed accountant.
The Senate on Monday ordered Gamo's release from detention, while the Department of Justice believes the embattled mayor is still in the country based on information about her whereabouts.
"We continue to provide police assistance to the Office of the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate, who are tasked with implementing the warrant of arrest. Our coordination with them is ongoing," Fajardo said.
The PNP spokesperson also warned that those helping Guo and her companions hide from authorities will face charges if there is sufficient evidence.
"If we have enough evidence and it is proven that they are hiding Mayor Guo and seven others, we can file cases against them," Fajardo added.
