Sara Duterte Rebukes PNP Chief for Political Harassment Over Security Detail Pullout

Vice President Sara Duterte vehemently criticized Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil for withdrawing 75 police personnel from her security detail, accusing him of "political harassment."

Marbil earlier defended the decision, stating that the personnel from the Vice Presidential Protection Division (VPPD) were reassigned to bolster police presence in the National Capital Region and that there was no immediate threat to Duterte.

In a sharply worded open letter on Monday, Duterte branded Marbil a "liar."

"Let's be honest with our people. This is a blatant case of political harassment... It was a deliberate and targeted move," she asserted.

Duterte explained that the VPPD, under the Police Security and Protection Group as per the National Police Commission, was specifically established to protect her and future vice presidents without interference from the PNP chief.

She also refuted claims that the PNP requested the removal of 75 officers from her detail.

"The PSPG informed the Office of the Vice President (OVP) about the personnel withdrawal. I didn't contest because you are the law, right? Then, the relief orders signed by you were released," Duterte stated.

She further denounced Marbil's assertion that there was no security threat against her, highlighting a "malicious attempt" to release a video of her leaving the Philippines.

"I wouldn't mind if it was just me, but the video also showed my husband and minor children, creating a significant security risk," Duterte said.

She disclosed that some PNP operatives visited her residence for "casing," with inquiries made about the rental house where she and her children live.

Duterte linked the withdrawal of her security detail to her resignation from the Department of Education and her declaration that she would not attend President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address as the "designated survivor."
