Imee Marcos Gave Her Opinion to PNP Chief, Calls for Restoration of VP Duterte’s Security

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos expressed strong disapproval over the reduction of Vice President Sara Duterte's police security detail, urging for its immediate reinstatement.


In a social media post on Tuesday, Marcos detailed the reasons for restoring Duterte’s security team.


“Firstly, she is the second highest elected official in the country, and her safety should never be compromised. Secondly, she is a Duterte, known for her firm stance on law and order, just like her father, which makes her a prime target for the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army,” Marcos stated.


Marcos also criticized Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rommel Marbil for reallocating 75 police officers from Duterte’s security detail to other duties, mainly in Metro Manila.


“At sino naman ‘yang Rommel Marbil? Ni hindi ko nga ‘yan kilala,” she remarked.


Previously, Duterte labeled the recall of her security detail as a “clear case of political harassment.”


To recall, the Vice President had posted a four-page letter on Facebook accusing Marbil of lying about the reasons behind the withdrawal of her police protection.


Marbil defended his decision, asserting that there were no threats against Duterte to justify the security detail.


However, Duterte challenged this explanation, questioning Marbil’s understanding of what constitutes a threat.


“Ano ba ang ibig sabihin ng ‘threat’ sa iyo? Ang banta ba ay maaari lamang magmula sa mga external elements? Hindi na ba ‘threat’ kung ang harassment ay nanggagaling mismo sa mga tauhan ng gobyerno?” Duterte inquired.


“Tandaan mo, pagdating sa seguridad ng aking pamilya, ako ang magsasabi kung sino ang karapat-dapat, hindi ikaw. Batas ka lang, hindi ka Diyos,” she concluded.

Carlos Yulo is poised to receive significant rewards following his groundbreaking gold medal win in the men's floor exercise at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Yulo's victory marks him as the second Filipino athlete to secure an Olympic gold, following weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz , who achieved this milestone during the Tokyo 2020 Games.
